Rejuvenation of
Life
Naturon Panchakarma is a unique therapy for detoxification,
cleansing of internal organs and rejuvenation of vital organs of the body.
Cleansing of the body inside out through various procedures is practised
as laid down in ancient texts.
These bio-purification procedures deal with both
the Preventive and the Curative aspects and are carried out in
three parts.
- Poorva Karma (Pre Karma procedures)
The procedures done prior to the Pradhan Karmas are
called as Poorvakarma. These includes
Pachan
Pachan means to digest the Ama (Undigested food materials)
and vitiated doshas. The Ama Pachan drugs like Shunthi, Trikatu, and
Hingvashtak Choorna are given for Pachan before Snehan.
Snehan
Snehan refers to internal as well as external oleation
of the body. Internal oleation includes intake of ghees or oils in particular
doses for about 3 to 7 days depending upon the doshic constitution of
an individual. Symptoms like oily loose motions, oily skin, and nausea
even after smell of ghee confirms the proper oleation of body. Due to
Snehan all the channels of systems become lubricated. This helps in
easy passage of doshas from periphery to the stomach without any obstruction.
External oleation is done by application of medicated oils over the
body.
Swedana
Swedana Karma is simply the group of procedures used
to induce sweating. Charaka eloquently tells us that Swedana is "whatever
relieves stiffness, heaviness, and cold in the body and produces sweat"
This is also of two types
1. Agni Sweda ( Direct fomentation by heat or steam)
2. Anagni Sweda (Indirect fomentation)
Due to fomentation all the vitiated doshas are melted. Blocks in
various channels are removed leading to safe passage of doshas without
any obstruction.
- Pradhana Karma (Main Naturon Panchakarma procedure)
The five procedures are:
Vaman (Process of induced emesis)
This is a procedure in which vitiated doshas are removed
by induced emesis. Mainly practiced for disorders of Kapha Dosha and diseases
like Bronchial Asthma, various skin diseases, acidity, allergic rhinitis
etc.
Virechan (Process of induced purgation)
This includes purification of doshas through induced
loose motions. Procedure is mainly carried out for Pittaj diseases like
acidity, urticaria, skin diseases and also for diseases like rheumatoid
arthritis etc.
Nasya (Nasal insufflation)
Nasal insuffalations of different oils or powders
is called as Nasya. Generally used in Rhinitis, headache, sinusitis and
various psychological diseases.
Vasti (Rectal medications with oils and herbal decoctions)
Vasti is a procedure carried out for purification of
vitiated Vata Dosha. It is done by alternate oil and decoction enemas
for 8 or 16 or 30 sittings depending upon chronicity and degree of vitiation
of doshas. This process of rectal medication is very popular and practiced
widely in diseases like Arthritis, Hemiplagia, Neurological as well as
neuro-muscular dysfunction etc.
Rakthamokshana (Blood Letting)
Blood letting process is called as Raktamokshana. It
is of two types- 1. Sarvadehik (Generalized) 2. Sthanik (Localized) Leech
application is very popularly used and safest method of blood letting.
Skin diseases like eczema, psoriasis, leucoderma respond very well to
this treatment. It is also used for the treatment of wounds, ulcers and
varicose veins for improvement of peripheral blood circulation.
- Paschat Karma (Post Karma procedure)
As the postoperative care is very critical in surgical
procedures, same like that Pashchat Karma is also very important in
the Naturon Panchakarma procedures. It includes three main procedures
1. Samsarjan Karma
After the Naturon Panchakarma procedures digestive power gets hampered,
so one is unable to digest normal diet. To increase the digestive power,
patient should be gradually shifted to normal diet from Peya (thin rice
water), Vilepi (thick rice water), Yoosha (Moong soup) etc. This type
of Diet regimen after Naturon Panchakarma treatment is called as Samsarjan
karma. This type of diet therapy can be advocated for 3 to 7 days depending
upon the Shodhan Procedure. 7 days of Samsarjan karma is tabulated below.
2. Rasayanadi Karma Usually desired Rasayana
therapy is given after purification of body by Naturon Panchakarma treatment.
3. Shaman If the Naturon Panchakarma is
given for curative purpose, then the treatment of that particular disease
is given as Pashchat Karma.
Who Needs Naturon Panchakarma
Activity is always good for the body, but as the pace of life overtakes
mans' ambitions, man becomes ill at ease trying to keep pace. Diseases
like Stress, Strain, Arthritis, Asthma, Obesity, Diabetes, Cancer, etc.
set in, slowing the pace and defeating the purpose of life. Throughout
our life span, tissues and cells are destroyed by the body and replaced
time and again by new ones. With age however, the replacement is negligible
leading to health problems. One ailment leads to another causing a cascading
effect and disorders begin to take a toll on human life.
As Ayurveda deals with both prevention and cure,Naturon
Panchakarma helps
both the healthy and the ailing. A wise person will not wait till ailment
sets in to walk into Panchakarma. A healthy body and a healthy mind are
vital aids to success in all walks of life, for the young and the
old.
